In this issue of The Metro Shopper we are happy to introduce to you a New Feature - The Metro Shopper Reviews - Food Review. Here's how it works, The Metro Shopper will be visiting some restaurants in the area (unannounced) and telling you about the experience. Our First review starts in West Ashley.
From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed to a clean dining experience by their friendly staff. To their credit, they did not know when we would be dropping in, yet the food was consistently fresh & hot. This is very impressive considering there are over 50 hot items, a raw hibachi grill, a sushi bar, and a fruit & dessert bar that includes a hand dipped ice cream section with 8 flavors. We had to ask how this was accomplished. We were told there are usually 4-5 cooks constantly working to keep an eye on the food and cooking to order. Looking over the buffet, it can be a bit overwhelming and we can tell you, it's hard to know where to start. There is definitely something for everyone here. We were told the most popular items are the Chicken & Broccoli and Salt & Pepper Shrimp. Instead of trying to describe every item to you, we will take a different path. In part one of this feature, we will look at our favorite items. These are the items we will call our list of Can't Misses. These would be items we would highly recommend on your visit here. Interestingly enough, when we discussed what our favorites were, we all mentioned seafood items. Listed below are The Can't Misses.
As stated before, the staff of The Metro Shopper dropped in unannounced to A-1 China Super Buffet to review their food and dining experience. We found the staff very friendly and we really couldn't ask anything more of them.
Upon trying to review this restaurant, we found that it is an overwhelming experience to try to try a little bit of everything and make a judgement on a restaurant. With over 50 hot items at your disposal, you find yourself getting full really fast. Usually at a buffet you try a little bit of what looks good and you tend to stick with going back for seconds of what you like. We really didn't get that luxury, we found so many things that were really good, that we couldn't even give proper attention to some items. For instance, one thing that this restaurant features is Crab legs $11.99 per pound ( aprox.... 2 clusters) We never even got the opportunity to try this option. In addition to this item, there were quite a few options that after trying the various items at our disposal, that we look forward to trying next time. The Sushi bar looked great, and one member of our staff thought the little bit that they tried was very good. We really didn't get much of an opportunity to fully experience the Hibachi Bar either. All you have to do is request an item and it will be cooked to order.
Finally, we would like to review the Cold bar. This Bar is no slouch either. There are quite a few options to choose from here. First of all, There is a wide variety of items including: Salad, Fruit, (Cantaloupe, Honey Dew Melon, Oranges, Apples, Pineapple, Grapes etc.), Red & Green Jello, Pudding (Chocolate, Banana, & Tapioca), Boiled Shrimp, Squid & 8 flavors of Hand dipped ice cream. We really can't say enough about this option. It may not seem like a lot, but the most common find for ice cream options at a buffet is a soft serve machine that serves chocolate and vanilla. The option to hand dip "Real" Ice cream cannot be understated. The flavor options are good too. When we visited the following flavors were available: Chocolate, Vanilla, Cookies & Cream, Cotton Candy, Mint Chocolate Chip & more.. We are looking forward to returning to fully experience A-1 China Super Buffet. We found that this is a great option for dining, especially for families. At a price of $9.99 per person, this is a deal and well worth the price. We would highly recommend giving them a try and you may find that this is a new favorite.
